Highway will remain closed at least until Saturday, and probably longer.

ITD plans to inspect the area via helicopter on Saturday, and possibly drop charges to assess the stability of the snowpack.

The helicopter company cannot fly until Saturday because of the snow forecast and winds.

Once the assessment is completed on Saturday, ITD will formulate a plan to plow the highway, and will provide information about how long that may take.

Well, Stanley finally got some snow—17 inches of it in 24 hours! Unfortunately, that means Highway 21 is closed due to avalanche danger. ITD is predicting an extended closure due to current conditions and continued expected snowfall. They will be assessing the situation daily to determine when it is safe to reopen the highway. You can track updates on their website, https://511.idaho.gov/#:Alerts. In the meantime, Highway 75 north and south remain open. Drive carefully!
